Dublin has been named officially the "2010 European Capital of Sport"

04th February 2010 - The title is awarded by the European Capitals of Sport Association.
The announcement was made this afternoon at the capital's Mansion House of Dublin.
Mr Gian Francesco Lupattelli said that Dublin is very important for European Sport. Ireland have given the possibility to create the possibility of sport within the EU giving it the scope to grow within the EU.
Lord Mayor of Dublin, Councillor Emer Costello, said she hoped the award would capture the public's imagination. "It's testimony to the greatness of the achievement by the huge turnout that we've had here today, and the calibre of sportspeople and the different organisations that have got behind this."
The award has been assigned by the Sport Director of the European Commission Pierre Mairesse, the flag has been given by the city of Milan as "2009 European Capital of Sport" by the Sport Councillor Alan Chistian Rizzi. He wishes Dublin and all citizens a good year of events and sport activities.
There were been awarded the Italian cities of Loano, Busca and Montorio A.V. as 2010 European Towns of Sport. They will follow the Spanish city of Robledo de Chavela.
The event has been open by Marco Tardelli, Ireland assistant boss, a big Italian champion of the football that won the world championship in 1982. He was very happy for the award and wished Dublin and all the passionate citizens all the best.
